Previously we promised to be fair and talk not only about pros but also cons of the barefoot shoes.
So today - honestly about the questions and doubts that barefoot shoes raise 👇
1️⃣ Barefoot shoes do not suit every style
Among the barefoot models, you will not find shoes with heels or wedges, with tricky uncomfortable lacing and lots of decorations. All barefoot shoes are spacious, minimalist, with a thin sole. And yes, for those who are used to narrow long socks, they may seem less elegant.
But this is only at first glance. Early barefoot models really looked very unusual (they were even nicknamed "clown shoes")😱 Now there are so many barefoot shoes that there is no problem choosing one for your unique style. They can be sporty, casual, and elegant. There are models that are wider and narrower; bright and discreet - in general, for any occasion.

2️⃣ Barefoot shoes carry a very high risk of injury
If your feet are used to shoes with cushioning and support, a sudden transition to barefoot shoes can cause discomfort. And until the foot muscles are trained, and the foot itself moves out of habit the same way it did in traditional shoes (that is, incorrectly), there really is a risk of injury. Especially if these are barefoot sports shoes and you start intense training in them without proper preparation.
The good news is that such injuries are easy to avoid if you switch to barefoot shoes smoothly. How to do it right - we told in the post How to Correctly Transition to Barefoot Shoes.
Also, the thin sole of barefoot shoes is not always able to protect against sharp objects (glass, nails).
People often ask: what about sharp stones? After all, it is also impossible to walk on them?
Yes, at first, out of habit, they can be strongly felt under your feet. But nature has laid down that we can and should move on such surfaces. And when the foot gets stronger, believe me, feeling the natural relief under your feet is an indescribable pleasure! 😍
By the way, maybe you have also heard/know about some disadvantages of barefoot shoes? Write in the comments, and we will be happy to analyze each of them 🤗
3️⃣ The body temperature is poorly regulated in barefoot shoes.
There is an opinion that barefoot shoes do not provide the same insulation as traditional shoes. Therefore, they are not suitable for cool or wet weather. But this is only partly true.
In fact, it all depends on the materials the shoes are made of. For example, for rainy weather, there are wonderful rubber barefoot boots in which your feet remain completely dry. There are barefoot sneakers, boots for "wet walks", beach slippers - they also withstand moisture.
Yes, a thin sole may provide worse protection from the cold. But for these cases, there are special insulated insoles.
