A bold and controversial statement, right?
Especially if you consider that entire lines of special "traditional" sports shoes are produced. They support, cushion, and relieve stress on joints and ligaments... All to make sports easy and safe. Can barefoot shoes ever compete with that?
Let us look at the following facts by using running as an example:
👉🏻 Despite the technological advances of special shoes, 79% of runners get injured during the training year.
👉🏻 Chronic complications in those who are seriously involved in running make up 65-80%. Moreover, this figure jumped to such impressive figures after the 1970s - that's when running shoes were largely introduced to the market.
This topic was studied long and hard by Harvard University doctor Daniel Lieberman. He seriously "dug" into the structure of the human foot, the evolution of running and eventually wrote a number of articles and books.
Lieberman himself is a fan of running. It's interesting to note that he runs exclusively barefoot.
He even gained a nickname - "Barefoot Professor".
And if a person who is so deeply "in the subject" decides to give up special running shoes, there must be a serious explanation for that. We also followed in Lieberman's footsteps, researched various studies and soon we will share our findings with you.
In the meantime, what do you think can be off about running shoes? And are barefoot shoes really suitable for sports?
