Tapered shoes are one of the reasons for the growth of the bone on the foot 😲
A lot of research has been done on this topic.
According to various sources, from 18% to 39% of cases of hallux valgus (the correct term for this pathology) are caused by wearing shoes that are not wide enough.
How does this happen?
With the correct gait biomechanics, we should push off the surface with the big toe. But in narrow shoes, it is involuntarily pressed against the other toes and points not forward, but in the middle. Because of this, the foot has to push off with the area of the bone.
The nervous system at the same time assesses the degree of load on this area and decides that it needs to be strengthened. How? That's right, by building up connective tissue there, a seal. And that very bone appears, accompanied with pain, burning, discomfort in shoes and even without them, plus other unpleasant "bonuses".
Therefore, the best prevention of such hallux valgus is comfortable shoes that:
✅ are lightweight;
✅ do not pinch the toes;
✅ bend at the point of extension of the big toe and in other "strategic" places.
Well, if the bone has already appeared and causes inconvenience - be sure to see a specialist. And change the shoes that harm your feet to those that respect them 👟
